GMC Donation Drive launched in partnership with Emirates Red Crescent

  • GMC’s first-of-its-kind donation drive organized on the occasion of the Holy Month of Ramadan
  • Crossing the seven emirates, the GMC Sierra-towed charity box will collect donations for Syrian refugees in Jordan

United Arab Emirates – GMC Middle East, in partnership with Emirates Red Crescent, is commemorating the holy month of Ramadan by launching a nation-wide charity initiative to help Syrian refugees who have had to relocate to the neighboring country of Jordan. The ‘GMC Donation Drive’ initiative will see a charity trailer tour the seven emirates, providing an opportunity for members of the UAE public to demonstrate the Ramadan spirit of giving by sharing their charitable donations.

Kick-started in Dubai last week, a GMC Sierra truck will travel around the country, hauling the giant donation box across several locations throughout the Holy Month, set to visit key locations and landmarks in Abu Dhabi, the Northern Emirates. Emirates Red Crescent will then transport all donations to the Syrian refugees of the UAE-Jordanian camp in Jordan.

The charity box will continue its journey throughout the UAE, visiting several locations across the Northern Emirates over the upcoming weekend including stops at Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Umm Al Quwain and Grand Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Fujairah, in addition to a number of shopping malls in Ajman and Sharjah. The GMC Donation Drive will then hit the streets of Abu Dhabi and Al Ain next week, visiting key locations including Al Murabba Heritage Fort in Al Ain, Cornishe Abu Dhabi and Sheikh Zayed Mosque in the UAE capital, before the journeys comes to an end on 14th June in Dubai. Detailed information on the locations of the trailer will be continually communicated on GMC’s social media channels.

Sajed Sbeih, Head of Brand, GMC Middle East, said: “Ramadan is a time of year when many of us donate generously, but many might also not know where they can give away toys or clothes for example. As a brand that has been in the region for over 93 years, we are committed to working with the local community and decided for the very first time in the region to launch this charity initiative that helps people of the UAE contribute wherever they are and benefit the refugees of Syria this Ramadan.”

About this initiative, Mohammed Abdullah Alhaj Al Zarooni, Manager - Dubai branch, Emirates Red Crescent, said, “Since its establishment, the Red Crescent has been promoting a spirit of compassion for those in need. We are delighted to be part of GMC’s Donation Drive charity campaign and are even proud of the great support we’ve received from the various segments of the UAE so far, which significantly contributes to the growth of the campaign and its expansion throughout the country.”
